A Journey Through Music of the African Diaspora (JMAD) explores and celebrates the rich creativity, depth and legacy of African diasporan musical traditions played by local, regional and nationally recognized musicians. With an opportunity to hear music from Latin to Gospel, JMAD creates a space for people to come together around a central idea, music, and listen to signature pieces by talented musicians whose individual diversity is as varied as the genres of music.
In honor of Gospel Music Heritage month, our first JMAD concert of the 2016-2017 season will be a Gospel Musical. This concert will take place on Thursday, September 22nd at 7pm and will feature various local choirs and vocalists including the Syracuse Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), and Jamel Jett & Breakthrough.
Admission is free and open to the public, donations are welcome to support future programming.
