Celebrate the work of School of Art graduate students Perry Burlingame, Rebecca Forstater, and Jeremy Tarr at their summer residency house on Governors Island. Through the ever-changing exhibition Between the Wish and the Thing, the artists, all members of the Class of 2019, create immersive spaces that question and reimagine the American Dream.
This summer, the School of Art expanded its internationally recognized Graduate Residency Program to include Governors Island. Housed in the island’s historic Colonels Row, graduates in the M.F.A. program are able to move beyond the academic setting as they initiate practices surrounding the history, environment, and architecture of the island. The residency on Governors Island is made possible through the generous support of the Trust for Governors Island and the School of Art.
Ferry service to Governors Island is available from the Battery Maritime Building, 10 South Street, Manhattan and Pier 6, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn. Check the ferry schedule for times, including late-night service on Fridays and Saturdays. Visit the Governors Island website for more visitor information.
