Join us for a grand opening event to kick-off a new season at LA CASITA!
Presenting a new series of paintings, photography and dance performances that celebrate urban culture, life in the barrios, street art and graffiti, La Casita’s opening event will also showcase reggaeton music, dance performances and a delicious tasting of Caribbean cuisine.
The exhibit will showcase more than 60 pieces including paintings by Syracuse-based artist Bennie Guzman; a newly completed mural (14 x 5 ft) by a group of teens from our community directed by Bennie Guzman, and photography by Point of Contact Gallery’s youth program -El Punto Art Studio- under the direction of Marilu Lopez Fretts.
Also, music for all to enjoy by DJ Roberto Perez; performances by all-student Syracuse University student dance troupe Raíces and by Domenique’s Dance Creations.
Each year, La Casita presents its inaugural event commemorating Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month with a new exhibition that invites community participation in a big way. The 2019 program will examine urban culture through a variety of special events including round-table discussions, fostering intercultural communication and understanding through dialogue. Stay tuned for more upcoming events!
