As part of a seminar series, the Biology Department within the College of Arts and Sciences presents Dr. Stephen Glatt, Director, Psychiatric Genetic Epidemiology & Neurobiology Laboratory of SUNY Upstate Medical University. His seminar is titled, Genetic Epidemiology and Architecture of Mental Disorders.
In his lecture, Dr. Glatt will describe his journey from biology (as an undergraduate at Syracuse University) to psychology to behavioral neuroscience to genetic epidemiology. He will review the evidence for a familial and genetic contribution to a large variety of mental disorders and present the results of the latest molecular genetic studies of the most prevalent and severe forms of psychopathology. The lecture will culminate with a discussion of the genetic architecture of common, complex mental disorders, highlighting shared and unique sources of variance. This event will be hosted by Dr. Sandra Hewett.
