COVID-19: Free Flow of Information and the First Amendment

Tully Center for Free Speech director, Roy S. Gutterman, will be joined by the First Amendment Coalition’s executive director, David Snyder, to discuss the free flow of information and the First Amendment during the COVID-19 crisis. Across the nation, government meetings that are usually open to the public have become difficult to access through video streaming, if they are available at all. Freedom of Information Act requests are delayed and in some cities temporarily blocked. Then in the name of social distancing, governments around the globe are pushing forward “anti-fake news” laws to silence journalists who are critical of how they have handled the pandemic. In this special event, Gutterman and Snyder will discuss the state of Press Freedom during Coronavirus and what journalists should keep in mind while reporting on COVID-19.
