Tully Talk: Aimee Edmondson, ‘Libel Law as a Cudgel’

The Newhouse School‘s Tully Center for Free Speech will host a conversation with Ohio University professor Aimee Edmondson, author of “In Sullivan’s Shadow: The Use and Abuse of Libel Law During the Long Civil Rights Struggle.” The book, which was awarded runner-up for the history journalism prize from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication History Division, explores New York Times v. Sullivan, the 1964 U.S. Supreme Court case that rewrote libel law.

Edmondson will discuss the use of Times v. Sullivan and libel law during the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
