Cloud computing is an engine of digital transformation. It has reshaped strategic thinking on technology and resiliency in the modern enterprise. Cloud technologies are increasingly at the heart of the institutional response to the unprecedented disruptions triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Industry analyses show that cloud technologies will be among the core capabilities that enable institutions to thrive in the post-pandemic economic recovery.

The 2021 Graduate Seminar themed series will delve into the cloud phenomenon and its implications for diverse work sectors and domains.

About the Helen Benning Regnier iSchool Graduate Seminars

Beginning January 2021, The Helen Benning Regnier iSchool Graduate Seminars will resume offering graduate seminars in an online format.

Each event consists of synchronous engagement sessions, design group work, and asynchronous components across a weekend and keeping in mind geographic location – approximately 10-12 hours overall, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST. Please note this could change and will be communicated accordingly. Synchronous engagement sessions will involve a combination of topic track options, lightning talks from key speakers (about their curiosity, research insights, and expertise), social engagement opportunities, and discussions with lightning talk presenters, iSchool faculty and alumni on current and future contexts in the research and practice of information science.

Seminars allow graduate students to engage with the iSchool community of other iSchool program students, researchers, faculty, and information professionals/alumni, ranging from librarians, industry consultants, analysts, and managers to CIO’s, archivists, Ph.D. students, and systems architects.

Seminar Requirements

Students in the EDS, LIS, IM, LIS-SM, and IM Exec tracks are required to attend one seminar to complete the graduation milestone requirement. For online iSchool students in these programs, attending one seminar fulfills your immersion requirement. It is recommended to attend a seminar after completing 12 or more credits toward your degree.

At each seminar, you will be asked to collaborate effectively with other graduate students across areas of study, experiences and backgrounds, and discuss the ethical, social, and economic dimensions of each seminar topic.

Registration and Deadlines

Registration opens on Monday, April. 26, 2021 and closes on Friday, June 11, 2021.

Students who plan to graduate in summer 2021 will be prioritized.
