To inform the existing landscape of the BioInspired Institute’s outreach efforts, the first, very important step is a public outreach gallery, where all BioInspired faculty are invited to share the broader impacts work they are planning or already doing. The purpose of the gallery is to:
- Allow folks to share their ideas with other faculty to identify areas of overlap and collaboration
- Highlight our ideas to organizations on campus that might be able to help us in the future.
The time commitment is very minimal: to participate, we’re asking you to fill out a 1-page template (available from Jeremy Steinbacher, firstname.lastname@example.org) and return as soon as possible. Even if you can’t make the interactive virtual gallery event, we will make the slides available internally to all BioInspired members and it will also help us with future planning, so please respond in any case.
This event supports the goal of the Institute to develop specific infrastructure within BioInspired to help faculty develop and improve their broader impacts or outreach/educational components for grant proposals and research programs. We are working with the Center for Teaching and Learning to identify resources on campus, such as the Shaw Center (https://shawcenter.syr.edu/) and others who can help us connect with community partners and articulate best practices.
