Turning your Dissertation into a Book (and Finding a Publisher!): Where to Begin

The Syracuse University Humanities Center, Office of Research, College of Arts and Sciences, and The Graduate School are pleased to host Peggy Solic, Acquisitions Editor with Syracuse University Press to offer “Turning Your Dissertation into a Book (and Finding a Publisher!): Where to Begin”:

Turning your dissertation into a book and finding someone to publish it can seem like an overwhelming task! In this session we’ll take a collective deep breath and talk about how to tackle revising your dissertation into a manuscript, finding the right press for your work, and how to approach an acquisitions editor.

The first 10 registrants will receive a complimentary copy of William Germano’s From Dissertation to Book, Second Edition. All attendees will be entered in a raffle to receive a half-hour consultation on their book proposal with Peggy!

Peggy Solic is an Acquisitions Editor with Syracuse University Press. She has a Ph.D in history from Ohio State University, and acquires in the fields of Middle East Studies, Indigenous Studies, Geography, and New York State.

This is part 1 of a two-part series on academic book publishing. Part 2, “Demystifying the Book Publication Process: From Peer Review to Published Author,” is scheduled from 1-2 pm on the same day, Wednesday, May 26. More information about Part 2 may be found here.

Both sessions are open to any interested faculty, staff, and graduate students. While both sessions are geared towards humanists, all are welcome.
