“Hidden Gems of Asia” is Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc.’s annual fall semester event week for Asian Awareness. This year, we decided on the theme, “Hidden Gems of Asia,” to highlight the stories, experiences and cultures of ethnic minority groups within the Asia region that have not, or do not, usually have a voice. Each event day will explore the stories of a specific ethnic group, diving deeper into their identity and legacies. On days where physical events are not held, Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. will be posting resources on our social media accounts.
Event 1: A Nation Under One Flag
In collaboration with Alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority Inc., Alpha Kappa Delta Phi’s Emmy will co-emcee with Kappa Phi Lambda’s Shallythaw Da. As Karen people, they will be teaching attendees of this event about their culture and bringing awareness to what is happening to their people. They will be using poster boards to help engage the audience.
