Graduate students and faculty from both the Department of Biology, and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at SU would like to invite you for another exciting event in our Diversity in E4 Seminar Series.

This time, we will be hosting a talk by Dr. Angelica Patterson from Black Rock Forest. We will also be hosting a student interaction/networking virtual lunch with Dr. Patterson immediately afterwards.

Title: Seeing the Forest for the Trees: The Physiological Responses of Temperate Trees in a Warming World

For Zoom link, email Nichole Miller.

About the speaker: Angelica Patterson is the Master Science Educator at Black Rock Forest. She received her B.S. degree in Natural Resources from Cornell University and her M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University, where she studied plant ecophysiology. Her interests in understanding the mechanisms behind climate-induced tree migration and plant community shifts inspired her to examine tree physiological responses to temperature as part of her dissertation research. Patterson is a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the environmental sciences and has served on various committee and working groups. She has served as a speaker at several US universities, environmental organizations, and K-12 institutions, and has been profiled in publications such as The Guardian, The Forestry Source, Cell Press, and the National Environmental Education Foundation. For more information about her and her work, visit her on twitter @ColorfulSciGirl or at www.theshotgunscientist.com

About the series: Graduate students and faculty from the Department of Biology and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at SU have been working towards a virtual seminar series focused on greater inclusion of scientists from underrepresented backgrounds studying ecology, evolution, earth and the environment. This seminar series, in addition to showcasing current research in the field, will also provide an opportunity for the student population to interact with scientists from diverse backgrounds.
