This panel seeks to normalize discussions and conversations about mental health in the technology industry that don’t always naturally come up.

From employees to executives, recognizing and understanding the importance of discussing mental health issues became a top priority at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, many notable figures shone a light on the importance of taking care of one’s mental health and having empathy towards others who deal with mental illness. Such mental illnesses include, but are not limited to: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and eating disorders.

Pressures, expectations, competition and stress persist in the technology industry and can often get the best of us. We want to start and continue to engage in conversations to understand how these factors affect our mental health. By advancing our communication skills regarding mental health, we help to facilitate a more supportive community at the iSchool, and in communities beyond Syracuse University.

Participating in these conversations more frequently helps to address the concerns surrounding mental health. We warmly invite you to take part.
