The National Science Foundation’s Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers (MRSEC) are among the premier materials research programs in the country. To start developing ideas for a potential MRSEC proposal from Syracuse University in spring 2022, the BioInspired Institute is organizing several brainstorming meetings. These are organized around themes that could possibly lead to Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs) that anchor the MRSEC.
This meeting is devoted to brainstorming ideas around Smart Biomaterials that fits with strengths at Syracuse University. These could be bioinspired materials affecting adhesion and friction, smart materials or those that trigger in response to a defined stimuli, and modeling to understand such systems. This session will be facilitated by James Henderson (Biomedical and Chemical Engineering) and Teng Zhang (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering).
