This event has already occurred. The information may no longer be valid.
This event is a part of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc.’s annual fall semester event week for Asian Awareness. This year, we decided on the theme, “Hidden Gems of Asia,” to highlight the stories, experiences and cultures of ethnic minority groups in the Asia Region that have not, or do not, usually have a voice. Each event day focuses on exploring the stories of a specific ethnic group, diving deeper into their identity and legacies. On days where physical events are not being held, Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. will be posting resources on its social media accounts.
Event 2: Resistance for Independence
One of the active sisters, Tenzin Norzin, will be presenting on Tibetan culture, history, language and contemporary issues. She will be using the event space to highlight aspects of Tibet and the Tibetan story that are not widely known and not incorporated in contemporary Asian/Asian American narratives. Tenzin will then focus on the colonial history of Tibet, highlighting the events of the 1959 Tibetan Uprising.
This event was published on November 1, 2021.
