The 12th Annual Everson Ceramic Arts Lecture presents Lisa Orr, followed by the opening of the exhibition “Curious Vessels: The Rosenfield Collection.”
It is no accident that Lisa Orr is among the most highly represented artists in the Rosenfield Collection. Her distinctive handmade tableware refers to traditional porcelain or restaurant whitewares, but with softer forms inspired by the playful and abundant qualities of Mexican earthenware. She invented her own production process after studying clay mold fragments in antiquated factories and museums. After forming pieces in molds, on the wheel, or both, Orr finishes them with gestural animals, stamps, slips, sprigs, and multihued glazes.
Orr is also an accomplished documentary filmmaker who has produced three documentaries about Mexican folk pottery. Her work can be found in numerous public and private collections.
This lecture is sponsored by the CAC Foundation in partnership with the Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts. It will be presented both live in the Everson Museum of Art’s Hosmer Auditorium and via livestream.
