Creative dissertation formats can open doors, helping you bring together unique skills and research, create a project with a significant public impact, and breathe life into scholarly work. More and more scholars are sharing their scholarly research and intellectual insights in dynamic, engaging forms such as graphic novels, mobile games, documentary films, and more, and are having an impact both within and beyond the academy. Join several humanities and social science scholars to learn more about these projects, discuss why this kind of work matters, and get advice on how to navigate potential institutional hurdles.

Participants include Jesse Merandy (“Vanishing Leaves“), Kay Sohini (“Drawing Unbelonging“), Justin Schell (“We Rock Long Distance“), Sonia Estima (“Multimodal Meaning Making“), and Ivan Gonzalez-Soto (“Thirsty for Change“). The discussion is moderated by Katina Rogers.

This event celebrates the launch of the Next-Generation Dissertations website, an outgrowth of the NEH Next-Gen Humanities PhD grant awarded to the Graduate School and Humanities Center in 2018. It is part of the HASTAC Scholars’ “Digital Fridays” online workshop series.
