It is necessary to situate this rising tide of violence in the broader histories that have produced it. By taking up “Asia” as a fraught geopolitical category that is formed through imperialist projects\, this symposium attends to the underlying logics of violence that are crucial to rendering these histories legible. Building connections that are enabled by transnational\, relational\, and critical lenses not only will deepen insights into the discourse of anti-Asian violence\, but also will allow a meaningful consideration of the implications of this moment for solidarity and movement building. This symposium will convene a cohort of scholars\, students\, and activists whose work can collectively help trace the genealogies and geographies of anti-Asian violence. \n  \nTHURSDAY\, MARCH 24TH • 4PM \n220 EGGERS HALL \nOpening Keynote \nThenmozhi Soundararajan\, Equality Labs“From Cisco to Calstate: A Conversation about the Caste Equity Civil Rights Movement” \nCO-SPONSORED BY: \nSouth Asia Program\,\nCornell University\, Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies\, Cornell\nUniversity; Syracuse University Graduate School; SU Humanities\nCenter; Hendricks Chapel; Department of Cultural Foundations of\nEducation; Department of English; Department of\nReligion; Department of Women’s and Gender Studies; East Asia\nProgram\, Syracuse University; East Asia Program\, Cornell\nUniversity; Southeast Asia Program\, Cornell University; Asian/Asian\nAmerican Studies Program\, Syracuse University; Asian American Studies\nProgram\, Cornell University; Disability Studies; Disability Cultural\nCenter; Intergroup Dialogue; Democratizing Knowledge Collective \nWith funding from the Department of Education Title VI Program. \n  \nFACULTY CO-ORGANIZERS: \nSusan Thomas\, Cultural Foundations of Education \nAntonio Tiongson\, Department of English URL:https://calendar.syracuse.edu/events/2022-mar-24/genealogies-of-anti-asian-asia-violences-symposium-65743/ LOCATION:Eggers Hall\, 220 130 Crouse Dr.\, Syracuse\, NY\, 13210\, United States CATEGORIES:Social Science and Public Policy ORGANIZER;CN="MAX-Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs":MAILTO:jmhoran@syr.edu GEO:43.0376318;-76.136385 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Eggers Hall 220 130 Crouse Dr. Syracuse NY 13210 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=130 Crouse Dr.:geo:43.0376318,-76.136385 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
