You are invited to join us for November’s Early Career Research in Neuroscience Seminar on Thursday, November 10, 2022, on Zoom.
Dr. Hannah Wirtshafter, PhD, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Neuroscience at Northwestern University, will join us to talk about her work utilizing multi-day in vivo calcium imaging to explore CA1 hippocampal activity in freely moving rats. Her work (Wirtshafter & Disterhoft, Journal of Neuroscience, 2022) demonstrates that hundreds of cells can be visualized in the hippocampus and held across weeks, with many of these highly correlated with periods of movement. This work has exciting implications for examining large-scale cellular activity during long timescales, and imaging large populations of hippocampal neurons can shed new insight on cellular activity changes and organization.
