The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs welcomes Kathryn Bond Stockton to campus.
Kathryn Bond Stockton is Distinguished Professor of English, former associate vice president for equity and diversity, and inaugural dean of the School for Cultural and Social Transformation at the University of Utah, where she teaches queer theory, theories of race and racialized gender, and twentieth-century literature and film.
Organized backlash against queer children demands our canniest, personal replies. Weaving memoir through new ideas, this talk stretches what we think we know about important matters surrounding gender, clothing and kissing—even, quite palpably, race and religion—as they relate to children. What kinds of issues for everyone’s childhood—and adulthood—revolve around issues for gay and trans kids? Prepare to enter a story that is yours.
This event is part of a series of discussions hosted by the Hicker Family Professor in Renewing Democratic Community to promote civil discourse and mutual understanding. Kathryn will take the stage with Chris Faricy, associate professor of political science and the inaugural Hicker Family Professor in Renewing Democratic Community.
There will be a reception with food and beverages immediately following the event along with a book signing with Dr. Stockton.
Please watch the Maxwell calendar for more events in the spring semester.
This is a private event for the Syracuse University community: students, faculty and staff. CART services will be available. For questions or additional accommodations, please contact Morgan Bicknell, mebickne@syr.edu.”
