The Lender Center for Social Justice encourages students from all academic disciplines at Syracuse University to apply for the 2022-2024 Lender Student Fellowship. The purpose of this research opportunity is to engage in a collaborative research project led by an SU faculty member.

The 2022-2024 Lender Fellowship project will be led by Dr. Mona Bhan, associate professor of anthropology, and will investigate how artificial intelligence weapons systems transform war and surveillance and accentuate people’s social and political vulnerabilities to violence. A team of five Lender Student Fellows will engage in collaborative documentation, research, analysis and dissemination on the social justice implications of AI weapons in Syracuse and beyond through GIS-enabled mapping and immersive media techniques.

Selected fellows will:

  1. Work closely with the faculty fellow in developing the collaborative research project;
  2. Work with students from various disciplines in a dynamic research environment; and
  3. Participate in public discussions and presentations of the research project. In addition, to support the collaborative research project, student fellows will receive a stipend for each of the two years.

The deadline for applications is November 1, 2022. For more information on how to apply, please visit lendercenter.syr.edu. If you need accommodations to fully participate in this event, please contact lendercenter@syr.edu no later than October 4, 2022.
