It’s common for people to worry about how technology is making it harder for us to connect, but sometimes it can actually bring us closer.

For more than 40 years, “The American Story with Bob Dotson” told inspiring tales of everyday American life on NBC’s “Today” show. During its long run, the segment took advantage of rapid advancements in recording technology to get up close and personal with its subjects.

In this live conversation for the “StoryTech with Jeff Kofman” podcast, Dotson, now an adjunct in broadcast and digital journalism at the Newhouse School, will discuss the many ways he used technology—from the first wireless microphones to the newest smartphone—to create his segment’s trademark sense of intimacy.

The event will be held in-person in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, 140 Newhouse 3.

About StoryTech

He left news media to found Trint, a London-based tech startup that leverages the power of AI to turn audio and video into powerful content for reporters and producers.

In each episode of StoryTech, Kofman weaves in his experience as a journalist, war correspondent and tech inventor to explore how storytelling has been shaped by innovation.
