The National Endowment for the Arts defines “creative placemaking” as a partnership initiative incentivizing stakeholders “from public, private, non-profit, and community sectors strategically (to) shape the physical and social character of a neighborhood, town, city, or region around arts and cultural activities.”

It “animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired.”

This presentation describes and documents a creative placemaking initiative at the campus and new facilities of the Syracuse Community Health Center led by Dr. James Haywood Rolling Jr., which also advances the School of Education’s strategic focus on experiential pedagogy and practice.

connectED a series of events for alumni, parents, students, and friends to learn more about the research, advocacy and people of the School of Education.
