Title: Understanding Intermolecular Interactions through Vibrational Nano-Spectroscopy

Abstract:

Surfaces, interfaces between materials, and the solid-liquid interface display unique local chemical environments and nanoscale structure compared to either isolated molecules or bulk-like materials.  Tip-enhanced infrared spectroscopy provides a route to measure and image the optical response at heterogeneous interfaces with nanometer scale spatial resolution. However, this approach has been primarily applied to measurement of interfaces and materials under ambient atmospheric conditions. We demonstrate new experimental and theoretical approaches to bring infrared nano-spectroscopy to the liquid-solid interface.
