Liza Malamut, founding member of Incantare

This program is offered as an introduction to the EXILE concert (https://www.incantaremusic.com/concerts) which will be performed by Incantare on Sunday, February 19 at Hendricks Chapel and will feature composers such as Salamone Rossi, Mutio Effrem, Giovanni Battista Buonamente, Claudio Monteverdi and others.

In her presentation, Malamut will discuss the influences of Italian, German, and eastern European music and Jewish culture, highlighting Jewish musicians, the non-Jewish composers they influenced and composers who inspired innovations in Jewish composition. The EXILE concert will highlight the mutual influences of the early modern European Jewish experience, breaking down preconceptions of Jewish music and culture and explore the implications of diaspora on Jewish artistic legacy.

Lunch and Learn with Incantare is co-sponsored by AMH, Medieval and Renaissance studies program and the Malmgren Concert Series.
