For much of the last century, the Palestinian national movement was oriented around the idea of statehood. And since the beginning of the twenty-first century, talk of the “two state solution”—a Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel—became a staple of international diplomacy. But both are no longer persuasive to most of those who would be citizens of the prospective state. What are the alternatives for the Palestinian national movement and for international diplomacy?
