As part of The Alexia Grants judging weekend, we welcome photographer, author and scientist James Balog as our keynote speaker. In his talk “The Human Element: Fire and Ice, Love and Lava in Our Fast-Changing World,” he will explore the relationship between humans and nature.
For 40 years, visionary photographer James Balog has revealed the most crucial environmental issues of our time. His 2018 award-winning film, “The Human Element“, has been screened worldwide. Balog’s Extreme Ice Survey program is the most extensive, ground-based, photographic study of glaciers ever conducted, and was the basis of the film “Chasing Ice“, which won an Emmy and the Sundance award for cinematography.
Prior to the event, please join us for a reception in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium lobby at 4:30 p.m.
