Ballad Of The Ordinary

Los Angeles Harbor Arts is pleased to present “Ballad Of The Ordinary,” a group exhibition showcasing a selection of sculptures and illustrations by School of Art M.F.A. students Aletta Ren, Sheez Lu, and Ruilin Shi. This exhibition features artworks completed this fall during Syracuse University’s Los Angeles Turner Semester residency program. A reception will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 6-9 p.m. PT with an artist Q&A at 7 p.m. PT

Through a series of poetic, site-specific artworks, “Ballad Of The Ordinary” encapsulates the students’ time spent this fall in San Pedro, California. These multidisciplinary works are visual diaries that capture fragments of daily life, sensations, and overlooked sites, showcasing each artist’s personal associations with the history and culture of “Pedro.” Born out of the daily practices of sketching, collaging, and collecting, the artworks in this exhibition are a window into a wandering journey of dream-like ordinariness.
