The Tough Topic Tuesday program offers students, staff and faculty the opportunity to engage in discussion around difficult or challenging subjects related to bias, diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and identity. These conversations provide campus community members with a platform for open and constructive dialogue and aim to promote understanding and connection across differences.
Oct. 24 Topic: Culture or Costume? A Conversation on Cultural Appropriation
With Halloween fast approaching, it is important to talk about the ways costumes can cross boundaries and become appropriation of others’ cultures and customs. In this conversation, we will talk about some of the fine lines between cultural exploration and cultural appropriation.
