The topic of environmental governance continues to grow in salience as the federal government and individual states grapple with evolving and, in some cases, unexpected environmental conditions. At all levels of government, policymakers and regulatory agencies are exploring varied and innovative policy solutions to manage wildfires, coastal resilience, biodiversity loss, energy transitions, natural resource scarcity and other environmental issues.
This panel convenes a set of academics and practitioners that discuss the processes by which these policy solutions come about and how key policy stakeholders negotiate their design. Panelists will also discuss opportunities and challenges for designing policies that are appropriate for dynamic and uncertain issues.
Moderators:
Saba Siddiki, associate professor and director of the Center for Policy Design and Governance, Syracuse University
Ryan Suto, interim director of government affairs, FairVote
Panelists:
Sara Rinfret, professor of public administration and associate vice provost of faculty affairs, Arizona State University
Neela Ram, Southeast regional director, Natural Resources Defense Council
Paul Babbitt, senior legislative assistant and counsel for Senator Mark Kelley
