The popularization of ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and similar AI tools present numerous opportunities and challenges for the practice of librarianship and the delivery of information services. Yet, the changing capabilities and ethical dilemmas resulting from these emerging technologies warrants discussion. This presentation offers a precautionary reflection on the sociocultural risks of AI tools for library and information professional practices.

In celebration of National Library Week, please join us as Beta Phi Mu member and iSchool PhD candidate Tyler Youngman ’20 G’21 presents a program on AI and librarianship. Sponsored by the Syracuse University Libraries and the Pi Lambda Sigma chapter of Beta Phi Mu, the international library and information science honorary society, at SU.
