Open Science Framework: Reproducible Methods and Research Collaborations

December 18, 2024 at 1:00pm4:00pm EST

Virtual (See event details)

The Open Science Framework (OSF) is a free and open source project management tool that supports researchers throughout their entire project lifecycle. The OSF helps research teams work on projects privately or make the entire project publicly accessible for broad dissemination, while enabling connections to the many scientific tools researchers already use. This serves to streamline research processes and increase collaboration and sharing. You may even use the OSF as a portfolio tool for sharing your work with potential collaborators or employers. In this series, Crystal Steltenpohl, training and education manager at the Center for Open Science, will engage you in two hands-on workshops to help you navigate the OSF and get you started with data management, research collaboration, and research sharing on the platform.

This first workshop will consist of two core modules:

  1. Reproducible Methods:
  • Find reproducible protocols and study methods for research
  • Select reporting guidelines for research
  • Create reproducible documentation of study methods, instrumentation, lab protocols, and analyses where applicable
  • Document reagents, plasmids, cells, and organisms where applicable
  • Describe how to share a protocol and how to get a protocol peer-reviewed
  • Check a protocol or manuscript for transparency
  1. Research Collaborations on OSF:
  • Organize your project materials
  • Create a collaborative environment for a research team on OSF
  • Choose appropriate access and permission settings for your workspace
  • Document changes to your project

This workshop counts towards completion of the Research Skills & Scholarly Publishing badge in the BioInspired Institute’s Professional Development Program. The workshop is cosponsored with the Graduate School’s Office of Career and Professional Development and the Syracuse University Libraries. Contact us at bioinspired@syr.edu with any questions.
