This luncheon is held after Jumuah Prayer. In Islam, Friday prayer, or Congregational prayer (Arabic: صَلَاة ٱلْجُمُعَة Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah), is a prayer (ṣalāt) that Muslims hold every Friday afternoon, instead of the Zuhr prayer. Muslims ordinarily pray five times each day according to the sun’s sky path, regardless of time zones. Youm Jumu’ah (“day of congregation”), or simply Jumuah means Friday in Arabic. In many Muslim countries, the weekend is inclusive of Fridays, and in others, Fridays are half-days for schools and some workplaces. It is one of the most exalted Islamic rituals and one of its confirmed obligatory acts.
Muslim Student Life at Syracuse University supports Muslim students, faculty, and staff in all religious and spiritual needs for development and growth. It is about accommodation, openness, and understanding — not judgment or restriction.
Muslim Student Life aims to improve understanding and representation of Muslim cultures and communities here in the US and worldwide through sharing our universal values with people of faith and no faith.
