Matthew Duss: ‘The Urgency of a New U.S. Foreign Policy’

Washington’s old foreign policy consensus is breaking up and a new one is struggling to be born. What values should shape America’s global role in this era?

From 2017-22, Duss was foreign policy advisor to Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt); from 2014-17, Duss was the president of the Foundation for Middle East Peace; and from 2008-14 Duss was a national security and international policy analyst at the Center for American Progress.

Duss’s work has been widely published, including in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, The Nation, The American Prospect, and Foreign Policy.

Duss has an M.A. in international studies from the University of Washington’s Henry M. Jackson School, and a B.A. in political science from the University of Washington.
