Situated at the crossroads of two major civilizations and empires — the Ottoman and Habsburg Empires — Bosnia & Hercegovina developed its own unique cultural traditions. This culture drew on the great imperial and cultural centers of Vienna and Istanbul, but adapted these emanations to the local setting. The once imperial legacy of a diverse and multi-cultural society lived on in Bosnia, although increasingly strained by modern nationalist projects. Dr. Hadzimejlic brings to light this cultural heritage, with a specific focus on its aesthetic dimension, which reminds us of a more open-minded and diverse world.
