This is a six-week series focusing on understanding Islam. It will cover Islam’s fundamentals, its followers’ diversity, the essence and higher objectives of the daily prayers, the importance of their accommodation for practicing Muslims, Ramadan observance and accommodations, and Islamic holidays. The last session will offer a guided visit to a Syracuse mosque. The series will help faculty, staff, students, and the broader public gain a deeper understanding of Islam and Muslims. It will also enable administrators and faculty to accommodate their Muslim students better. The series is also suitable for Muslim students to refresh and increase their knowledge about Islam through assigned readings and presentations and learn more about their Muslim peers who may have different backgrounds and ways of practicing Islam. All participants who meet the expected requirements will be awarded a certificate of completion at the end of the series.
