Join Jimmy Luckman associate director of First Year Seminar as he continues the dialogue after Pride Month about the LGBTQ+ community on college campuses within the United States. We will discuss the current state of the LGBTQ+ community within the United States, LGBTQ+ campus climate both in-person and digitally, a review of queer theory, and the exploration of different forms of LGBTQ+ storytelling.
The intention of this workshop is to further our understanding as to how we can support and create inclusive environments and affirming spaces to curate and share LGBTQ+ narratives. The workshop will also include aspects of Dr. Luckman’s dissertation titled, More Than Just a Sticker of LGBTQ+ Inclusivity: Exploring College and University-Based LGBTQ+ Center Director’s Process and Perceptions of LGBTQ+ Campus Climate Assessments, by engaging in discussion on the findings of the importance of storytelling and ways students, faculty, and staff can contribute to supporting the LGBTQ+ community specifically at Syracuse University.
