Description of Research Dissemination Workshop
- Learn from experts about best practices for creating inclusive public spaces.
- Discuss emerging findings from projects related to inclusive public spaces.
- Learn more about removing barriers and promoting public access for all.
- Network with other disability rights advocates, researchers, and practitioners.
This in-person workshop will focus on the difficulties individuals with disabilities face in navigating public spaces and how laws, policies, and practices can respond to these problems caused by inaccessible or difficult public rights-of-way. It stems from the work of the Inclusive Public Space Project, which investigates the problems caused by unequal access to city streets around the world and the ways law and governments respond to them.
Presentations and discussions at this in-person workshop will include: U.S. Law and Policy regarding public spaces, removing barriers to make communities more accessible, and further discussion on Inclusive Public Space Project findings from a comparative perspective. This workshop will be led by a team of researchers from the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University, the Southeast ADA Center, The University of Illinois-Chicago, and the School of Law and Centre for Disability Studies at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
