The two-year media studies master’s program provides a foundation in theories of media’s effects and practices, with a strong focus on developing research skills. Many of our media studies graduates go on to Ph.D. programs, while others enter the media industries with a deeper understanding of how media functions in society.

The four-year, fully-funded Ph.D. program is designed to train scholars to conduct original research, create new knowledge and disseminate their work through publications, presentations and teaching. The program is interdisciplinary, with students collaborating with faculty and taking coursework both inside and outside the Newhouse School in order to develop their expertise and chart their career goals.
