TA Program Coffee Hour: Why Should TAs Use Mid-Course Evaluations

October 17, 2024 at 3:00pm4:00pm EDT

Lyman Hall, 303

During the TA orientation, the Teaching Mentor (TM) staff covers a wide breadth of topics that Teaching Assistants will (and have) encountered in their classrooms and labs. To continue these conversations, the TA Program announces the return of the Teaching Assistant Coffee Hour, an informal and friendly space where TMs and TAs can dive deeper into many TA-relevant themes. Each coffee hour will have a starting topic or theme, but the conversations can go wherever you like.

TAs will have an opportunity to share their experiences with peers and collaboratively workshop with a supportive group of teaching mentors and teaching assistants!

We hope you will join us each month to meet peers from different disciplines across campus to share your experiences, listen and learn from others, and discuss new strategies to implement in your classes!  Light refreshments will be provided.

Why Should TAs Use Mid-Course Evaluations

With the middle of the semester fast approaching, we invite TAs to reflect on their teaching over the last month and consider how they may revise/modify their teaching based on mid-semester evaluations. We will discuss why mid-course assessment is important, how to set up mid-semester evaluations, how TAs can approach evaluating students, and how to handle receiving student feedback.

Registration for this session is helpful for space and food purposes.  Please email Shawn Loner (scloner@syr.edu) to RSVP.
