This workshop for faculty is based on the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research’s (CIMER) Entering Mentoring curriculum and will focus on maintaining effective communication and working with students to establish clear expectations. The materials are relevant for mentoring at all levels, but with a specific focus on graduate researchers. This is an active workshop where participants work with a community of peers to develop and improve their mentoring skills. Participants will start to develop or enhance their own personal mentoring philosophy and leave with a set of strategies to help with mentoring challenges. The workshop, led by CIMER-trained facilitator Heather Coleman (Biology), is capped at 25 participants. A second workshop, focused on assessing understanding and encouraging independence, will take place Friday, November 1, 1:30-3:00 p.m. in Lyman Hall 312.
