As our grand finale to Global Charity Week, the Muslim Students’ Association will host the 2nd annual Charity Week Gala. MSA will host a formal dinner with a cultural theme, providing the opportunity for each member to dress up in their respective traditional clothing in celebration of our vibrant community. Attendees will be provided dinner, engaging conversations and inspiring presentations that highlight the importance of charity work within our community and within the Islamic faith. This dinner will also serve as an opportunity for members to donate towards our Charity Week goal. This is a unique opportunity to connect with fellow students, faculty and community members while supporting a worthy cause.

Through this community fundraising charity dinner, we aim to raise awareness and funds for our goal for Charity Week and unite our efforts to positively impact the lives of those in need, embodying the spirit of generosity and compassion which is central to our values. Additionally, Sadaqah (charity) is a core principle of Islam and this event serves to fulfill one of the obligations of Muslims.

Charity Week is “a volunteer-led campaign that raises money for children in need and orphans around the world.” The campaign’s goals include:

  • Inspiring young people to be active, socially engaged and united in their shared Islamic and humanitarian values.
  • Demonstrating that unity can solve problems, not money.
  • Showing that people are stronger together than apart.
  • Providing a lasting solution to the suffering of children through unity.

MSAs all across the country, and even worldwide, participate in Charity Week and compete in raising money for it.

We will be collecting RSVPs through Google forms to ensure the headcount is accurate and updated. We will be collecting funds through the Syracuse storefront page to ensure we can track people that donated, etc. This event will provide an opportunity for people in the community to engage with Muslim students and learn more about Muslim faith and cultural practices. Dinner for an event of this caliber and reach is necessary to bring our community together and celebrate our culture and faith. Drumlins is on the Syracuse University bus line, so this event is accessible and open to the entire Syracuse University community.

As the only formal and flagship event of the semester, the MSA Gala will be an occasion to dress in traditional clothing, celebrate our diverse community and come together for a night of purpose and communion. This event will be open to all members of the Syracuse University and SUNY ESF communities. We encourage everyone at Syracuse University to join us in making a difference.
