At Syracuse University, we’re proud to celebrate disability culture and identity as a part of the diversity that makes our community so vibrant.

Disability Pride is an attitude and a movement that challenges the idea of disability as inherently negative or shameful, and instead promotes disability as a natural part of human diversity worth taking pride in. While Disability Pride Month is celebrated internationally in July, the University dedicates April to Disability Pride before the conclusion of the semester.

Disability Pride Month is coordinated by the Disability Cultural Center and the Disability Events Planning Committee, with representation from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), Center for Disability Resources (CDR), InclusiveU, Center on Disability and Inclusion (CDI), the Office of Interdisciplinary Programs and Outreach (OIPO) in the Burton Blatt Institute, and more. Students, staff and faculty members have contributed to Disability Pride Month’s development, and everyone from the campus community is invited to participate in this year’s exciting lineup of events.

Stop by Bird Library to browse a curated list of available books on topics around disability. The main display will feature selections for Disability Pride Month.
