ODI Lunch and Learn: “Centering the Intersectionality of Cultural Identities in Student Engagement: The Intercultural Collective at Syracuse University”

April 4, 2025 at 12:00pm1:00pm EDT

Schine Student Center, 304ABC

The presentation will consist of three parts. First, the presenters will explain the philosophical and theoretical foundation of the Intercultural Collective’s work. This will begin with the concepts of intersectionality, interculturality, and dimensions of identity. Moving to underrepresented student experiences, presenters will speak on sense of belonging and the ways the Intercultural Collective works to create positive cultural experiences for students through anti deficit models. The second portion of the presentation will highlight specific work done within the Intercultural Collective, including collaborative efforts across centers and the work done individually at each center. As the Intercultural Collective spotlights cultural/heritage months, mentorship programs, and other events, presenters will demonstrate how the programming is grounded in theory. In the final position of the presentation, Intercultural Collective leaders will go over ways staff, faculty, and students can support the work of the Intercultural Collective and/or get involved in the work. This will be done in a way that empowers community members to find their place within intercultural community while honoring themselves, their peers, and the work.

CART captioning and lunch will be provided.
