Bringing Visibility to Disability in Film: Film Screening of “Out of My Mind”
April 8, 2025 at 7:00pm – 9:30pm EDT
Newhouse 3, Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium

The screening will be followed by a conversation with Michael Fitzgerald, the film’s production designer.
Based on the 2010 novel of the same name, “Out of My Mind” from Disney+ tells the story of 12-year-old Melody Brooks, who is navigating sixth grade as a nonverbal wheelchair user who has cerebral palsy. During this pivotal time in her adolescence, Melody faces major obstacles, but with assistive technologies and a devoted team of allies, she is finally able to show the world her brilliant intellect and fierce sense of humor!
Fizgerald will discuss how he worked with the creative team, the accessibility team, and community consultants to create an authentic and theatrical world for Melody.
