The French department of Syracuse University and its Graduate Students are pleased to announce the upcoming colloquium titled “Theater and Cinema: Staging Challenges in the Francophone World”, to be held on April 11th. This colloquium will explore the diverse dimensions of theatrical and cinematic staging, focusing on the themes of space, voice, and language as fundamental elements in dramaturgy.

This colloquium aims to explore the complexities and intersections of theater and cinema in the French speaking world, with a special emphasis on space, voice, and language as key elements of staging. How does staging in theater and film serve as a means of expression, mediation, or transformation? How does it engage with historical, cultural, and social frameworks, and what can we learn from these creative spaces?
