Meaning of Upcycle Design for Participants
This project explores the potential of discarded materials in furniture-scale design, offering an innovative approach to sustainability and community-centered creation. In a world where resource scarcity and environmental impact are pressing concerns, upcycling provides a compelling response. This workshop empowers participants to see themselves as designers and gives them the opportunity to identify beauty in “trash” and view discarded materials as a resource for creation.
Hands-on Design and Community Involvement
Participants will be encouraged to bring their own discarded objects, along with additional materials provided by the workshop organizer. On Day 1, they will choose their materials, design their pieces, and start building. Day 2 will focus on finishing and decorating their projects, followed by a discussion and sharing session. A simple pizza dinner will be provided for participants.
Premade Connectors
In this workshop, the organizer will pre-fabricate various components using everyday discarded materials like tubular pipes from chairs, lamps, shopping carts, bicycle seats, metal joints from machines, and packaging wood panels. We will prepare these materials with pre-drilled holes or welded panels, then sand them off to remove dangerous sharp edges.
Participants will have a small collection of hand tools to work with.
