SyracuseCoE Research & Technology Forum: Salutogenic Design Is the Most Important Attribute of Future Healthy Buildings
April 21, 2025 at 3:30pm – 5:00pm EDT
Syracuse Center of Excellence, Room 203
A healthy building should not only secure the health of the building occupants but also create conditions that are optimal for cognitive performance. In this lecture, Dr. Pawel Wargocki (Technical University of Denmark) will discuss what the optimal conditions are and the underlying mechanisms connecting the environment in buildings, its quality, and cognitive performance. The lecture will attempt to provide solutions. Another aspect discussed will be sleep quality and the connection to bedroom environmental quality. Sleep is essential for health, so healthy buildings must not disturb sleep. Finally, this presentation will argue that healthy buildings are part of the decarbonization processes and an essential element of achieving sustainable development.
