The Changing Audience of Business Journalism
Join Alyson Shontell, editor-in-chief and chief content officer of Fortune magazine, for a discussion about her career trajectory, the evolution of business journalism and the importance of inclusivity in the industry.
Since joining Fortune in 2021 as the first woman and youngest editor-in-chief, Shontell has increased Fortune’s website readership by more than six times and led the newsroom to win numerous awards. She oversees content across all of Fortune’s platforms, including the magazine, website, newsletters, executive conferences, videos and podcasts. Previously, she served as editor-in-chief of Business Insider, where she significantly grew the readership and covered major tech companies. Shontell is a judge for the Gerald Loeb Awards and serves on the Syracuse University Newhouse School Dean’s Advisory Board. She graduated from Syracuse University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and psychology.
The conversation will be moderated by magazine, news and digital journalism senior Mattea Vecera.
