REEL Feminism: Valentine’s Day Edition

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Women’s and Gender Studies professor Jaynelle Nixon is hosting a screening and discussion of the genre-defining cult classic film, 28 Days Later.

In addition to showing the part zombie horror, part Gothic romance film, Prof. Nixon will employ a diasporic lens and analyze it in relation to the 2025 African American History Month theme of “African Americans and Labor.” Gender, race, labor and state sanctioned violence are core themes of the film.

This screening is part of Prof. Nixon’s Queer Futures/Monstrous Past: Women in Contemporary SciFi/Horror Films class, but all are welcome. The screening and discussion will take place on Thursday, February 13, from 4 – 7 p.m. in Carnegie 122. There will be free pizza, snacks and beverages. Please feel free to invite your friends, students and peers.
