Creating Diversity-Rich Classroom Spaces
February 25, 2025 at 1:30pm – 3:30pm EST
Bird Library, 114
This workshop in the Certificate in University Teaching seminar series is tailored to graduate students entering the professoriate who desire to learn how to foster inclusive, diversity-rich classrooms in higher education. Participants will engage in activities to assess their own social identities and how these intersect with students’ characteristics. We will use filmed vignettes of classroom “Flashpoints” to discuss how we might respond in challenging situations related to marginalization and oppression. The workshop is led by Professor Emerita Mara Sapon-Shevin (School of Education).
